Did you come from a breastfeeding family?
There are a lot of factors that influence a woman’s decision to breastfeed—and family history can be a big part of it! We asked moms from different backgrounds to share how their family’s breastfeeding history played into their choice to breastfeed.
Tips for Getting Breastfeeding Support From Family
Be clear and ask your family for support. Even if you don’t come from a breastfeeding family, they can still take an active role in supporting your decision. Try talking with them to let them know you need their help to stay dedicated to breastfeeding as soon as possible. Let them know that support can come in many forms, like coming over to help with chores or being a breastfeeding cheerleader from afar.
Didn’t come from a breastfeeding village? Build one! Breastfeeding is a natural process, but it’s also a learned skill that improves with knowledge and practice. If you don’t have family or friends who can help, moms’ groups (online or in person) can be a great place to learn tips, share experiences, and get encouragement to help you be successful.
